Dearborn Library Receives Major Grant Award

The Dearborn Public Library, partnering with the Dearborn Public Schools, will receive a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant for $110,000.  This grant will be used to install and maintain a remote library locker at Salina school in southeast Dearborn.  The locker will provide a location to pick up and return requested library material.  Students and community members will be able to place material on request through the library website.  When the material is available at the remote locker, the requestor will be notified by e-mail.  When the material is due to be returned to the library, it can be placed in the locker’s drop box for pick up by public library staff.  The program includes outreach and training for students and residents so they will be comfortable using the remote locker.

This pilot program will provide the southeast Dearborn community with access to library material for education and entertainment, thereby opening the doors of knowledge and lifelong learning.

The project is primarily funded with a Library Services and Technology Act grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Library of Michigan.  Additional funding is being provided by the Friends of the Library-Dearborn and the Dearborn Public Library Foundation.
