New Website and Latest Online Resources Available Now at Dearborn Library

September 9, 2014

DEARBORN,Mich. – The Dearborn Public Library has launched a new website and added new online resources to promote greater customer service in the digital age.

The website includes expanded online features and ease of navigation.  The public events calendar has been integrated with the new design, is color-coded according to the intended audience, and users can register for most events on the calendar right from their own computer or mobile device.  The library newsletter, which has been available on-line for some time, can now be viewed with an innovative digital reader that allows users to “flip” through the pages on screen.

The new “How do I . . .?” section is the place to go for answers to general questions and step-by-step instructions on how to obtain a library card, rent a meeting or study room, and other services.  Additionally, with a valid Dearborn library card, patrons can visit the website for access to a full menu of digital reference tools and resources for valuable information at the click of a mouse. “At a glance the Dearborn community will be able to see what’s new at the library and can take advantage of those things anywhere they have an internet connection,” said Matthew Tansek, digital resources developer at Dearborn Public Library, “Our great services just got better.”

Two new additions to the online resources portal on the library’s homepage are Cypress Resume and Britannica Image Quest.  Cypress Resume is an online tool that helps job seekers effortlessly create a professional resume in a matter of minutes.  The user simply inputs basic information about self, education, and job history, and the resume builder writes the concise, descriptive statements needed for an attention-getting, professional-looking resume.

Britannica Image Quest offers online access to approximately three million rights-cleared images from more than 50 of the best collections in the world.  Images are available on thousands of topics, and users have unlimited downloads.

“This is a great resource for anyone looking to add images to their school projects or papers,” said Rebecca Hermen, youth services supervisor. “Not just because it’s easy to browse, but also because you don’t have to worry about copyright issues like you would with other image searches.”

Britannica Image Quest is intended for educational and informational purposes only.  Britannica Image Quest can be accessed with a valid Dearborn Library card from any internet-linked computer.

Tech savvy patrons are invited to explore Zinio, a service that provides unlimited digital access to more than 200 popular magazines.  Patrons can also be the first to know about new materials at Dearborn Public Library when they sign up for free email alerts from Wowbrary.  The alerts feature the latest bestsellers, movies, music CDs, children’s titles, and more purchased by the library on a weekly basis.
