At 7:30 p.m., the grand prize winners of summer reading will be announced by Mayor John B. “Jack” O’Reilly, Jr. All summer reading participants who complete this year’s goal of logging seven hours by Aug. 1 are eligible for the grand prize drawings.
The Candy Band is a punk rock band designed specifically to appeal to children. It is composed of four Detroit area moms who were tired of what they deemed wimpy music for kids. They took a stand, and in 2003 formed The Candy Band, playing punk covers of nursery rhymes, movie themes and other children’s favorites, along with original tunes.
Josh Malerman is the lead singer and songwriter for the rock band High Strung. He is also a Ferndale resident who recently published his first book with Harper Collins. Josh’s debut novel, “Bird Box,” is described as an “edge-of-your-seat horror thriller with the exquisite terror of classic Stephen King.”
