What is the D-Lab?

The D-Lab is the Dearborn Library's digitization lab. It's purpose is to take old forms of media such as home movies or printed pictures and digitize them for safekeeping.

We can help with:

  • Image conversion (photographs, slides, negatives, prints) to digital image formats
  • Audio conversion (audio cassettes, vinyl records) to digital audio formats
  • Video conversion (VHS, VHS-C, DVD) to digital video formats

How to use the Digitization Lab:

  1. An initial in-person appointment is needed to assess the materials, scope, and establish a release waiver for any digitization project.
  2. Bring in your original media as well as digital storage media (flash drive, DVDs, etc). DVDs and flash drives will be available for purchase at the checkout desk.
  3. The Digitization Lab is a drop-off service.  Users will be contacted once their materials are ready to be picked up.

Appointments can be made by calling the HFCL Reference desk at 313-943-2330, option 4.  Appointments must be made at least 1 day ahead of time and are scheduled for a 1-hour maximum duration.

The D Lab is located on the third floor of the Henry Ford Centennial Library.

You will need a Dearborn library card in good standing to use the digitization service.

Keep in Mind
